Retin-ACE
A next-generation retinoid serum for correcting hyperkeratosis, pigment irregularities, and signs of photoageing, with an improved tolerance profile compared with classic retinoids.
Biological rationale
Retinoic acid and its derivatives are natural ligands of nuclear retinoid receptors (RAR/RXR), which regulate keratinocyte proliferation and differentiation, collagen synthesis, and melanogenesis processes. With age and chronic UV exposure, retinoid signalling activity decreases, leading to hyperkeratinisation, uneven pigmentation, and slowed epidermal renewal. Classic retinoids, such as tretinoin, effectively activate these receptors but require enzymatic conversion through cellular retinol-binding proteins (CRABP), which is associated with a pronounced skin reaction – erythema, peeling, and dryness.
Mechanism of action
Retinoid level. Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate (HPR) is an esterified form of retinoid that binds directly to RAR without the need for metabolic activation through CRABP. This provides stimulation of collagen synthesis and epidermal renewal with a significantly lower irritation potential compared with tretinoin.
Antioxidant level. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, a stable lipophilic form of vitamin C, supports collagen synthesis and helps reduce the appearance of pigmentation. Tocopheryl Acetate, vitamin E, provides antioxidant protection by reducing oxidative stress in the skin.
Barrier level. Plant-derived Squalane replenishes the lipid composition of the skin surface, reduces transepidermal water loss, and supports the formula’s compatibility with sensitive skin.
Evidence base
In studies, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate demonstrates a collagen-stimulating effect comparable to 0.1% tretinoin, with a substantially lower intensity of skin reaction.
Clinical profile
Indications: fine lines and wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, post-acne scars, enlarged pores, oily and breakout-prone skin, signs of photoageing, and skin dehydration. Suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin; contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation due to the risk associated with vitamin A derivatives.
Visible result
With regular use, the appearance of pigment spots is reduced, the skin becomes denser and firmer, and the texture becomes smoother due to accelerated epidermal renewal. Breakouts become less frequent, pores appear visually refined, and sebum production is normalised without a drying effect.
